High School Equivalency Exam

Effective November 14, 2023
The Atlantic County One Stop Career Center offers High School Equivalency Testing (GED) as well as preparatory classes for the test. The only approved test in the state of New Jersey is sponsored by Pearson Vue and is referred to as GED. The test is comprised of four subjects:
- Reading/Writing (one test)
- Mathematics
- Social Studies
- Science
How do I register?
All test candidates must have a registered account with Pearson Vue. Accounts can be established online at www.GED.com. To register for the test, participants must be at least 18 years or older and be a resident of New Jersey. At the time of the test, examinees must present a valid government ID and a second ID with proof of address (i.e., utility bill, bank statement, phone bill, etc.).
Youth ages 16 and 17 must register in person, (appointment only) accompanied by an adult parent, caretaker or guardian, at the One Stop Career Center. To arrange an appointment, please call 609-485-0052 ext. 4832.
What are the costs?
Each subject is tested separately. The cost is $36.00 per subject. Examinees must pass all four subjects with a minimum score of 145 in each subject area to obtain a diploma. Exam candidates who cannot afford the cost of the test may be eligible for financial assistance from the One Stop Career Center.

1. Study guides available for checkout at the Main Library and the Richmond Avenue Branch Library
2. LearningExpress: Your library card gives you access to this online learning resource that includes study guides and practice tests.
3. Tutor.com: Tutoring is available from 3 to 10 p.m. every day The Adult Career Center offers help with resumes, citizenship classes, GED preparation, back to school resources and more!
4. Job Skills Lab: Saturday’s from 9:30 am – 12 pm in the Main Library's new Next STEP computer lab. This lab offers staff assistance with GED prep, job searching, resumes and cover letters, computer skills, setting up an email address, and more. Registration required, call 609-345-226 ext. 3060 for more information.
