Atlantic City Free Public Library's new Overdrive eBook lending website is easy to use, but you will have to do some "set-up."
If you want to listen to audiobooks on your computer or Apple/Android tablet or smartphone you'll need to download the Overdrive Media Console™.
If you want to download ebooks, you'll need a Kindle, Nook, Apple or Android smartphone or tablet, or a PC with which you'll have to download Adobe Digital Editions to.
Please note: If you have an older Kindle or Nook reader you may still have to use your computer for downloading and transfer of eBooks. To figure out exactly which software you need for your specific device please click the My Help button below to get started.
Install the appropriate software
If you own a Kindle device, you're good to go for ebooks! Checkout your Overdrive title, click the "Get for Kindle" button.
If you don't own a Kindle, but want the option to read the Kindle format titles on another type of device, you'll need to download and install the appropriate Kindle software for your device:
If you are using a different Overdrive-compatible device or if you want to listen to audiobooks, you'll need separate software for these.
After you have installed the appropriate software, you may need to activate or upgrade it before you can begin downloading and enjoying your title.
Activate or upgrade your installed software
OverDrive Media Console for Windows requires a security upgrade.
OverDrive Media Console for Windows uses Windows Media® Player 9 Series (or newer) to play Overdrive audiobooks. The first time that Windows Media Player attempts to open an Overdrive audiobook, it will alert you that a security upgrade must be performed before the file can be opened. The upgrade takes just a few moments -- just follow the on-screen instructions.
OverDrive Media Console for Mac, Windows Mobile, and Android do not require security upgrades.
For EPUB and PDF ebooks:
Adobe Digital Editions requires activation.
Adobe Digital Editions can be activated anonymously or by using an Adobe ID. Activating using an Adobe ID allows you to download and read Overdrive eBooks on multiple computers and transfer them to supported eBook devices. Anonymous activation allows you to download and read Overdrive eBooks on a single computer only -- transferring your title to a portable device is not supported.
